It was recently announced that the USC Trojans and the Boston College Eagles have received a bid to play in the 2009 Emerald Bowl.
After a disheartening loss at the hands of the Arizona Wildcats to end the regular season, the USC Trojans have been relegated to unfamiliar bowl territory.
The Trojans and Eagles each bring a record of 8-4 into the game that will be played at AT&T Park, located in San Francisco.
Currently the home of Major League Baseball's San Francisco Giants, AT&T Park is an intriguing venue to host a college football game and one of the few bowl games played at a baseball-specific site.
Last year's Emerald Bowl featured the California Golden Bears who went up against and beat a Miami Hurricanes team, 24-17.
The 2009 game will be the second appearance by Boston College at the Emerald Bowl since its creation.
The Eagles played Colorado State back in the 2003 Emerald Bowl, beating the Rams, 35-21.
It will be strange to see the Trojans in the Emerald Bowl this year, especially considering that they have participated in the last four Rose Bowls and have not been involved in a non-BCS bowl game since 2001 (Las Vegas Bowl).
Strange as it may be, USC needs a victory over Boston College to salvage what is left of the season and end the year on a high note.
